Bee the Change Microfarm
Bee the Change Microfarm is a small, two person owned and operated farm specializing in raising chickens, ducks, and quail using organic, regenerative practices that work in harmony with nature. The farm was founded in 2019 when partners Ian and Susanna decided to begin moving towards self-sustainability on a single acre located on the central coast of California. The couple acquired their first beehive after taking a natural beekeeping course together in 2018, and as it so often goes, chickens followed the bees, with ducks, quail, geese, and rabbits close behind. Ian and Susanna decided to move their operation to Willits in early summer of 2023, in order to be closer to Ian's place of employment but also due to their shared love of rural forest living and the north coast. They hope to expand their operation over time, and always in harmony with nature.
Bee the Change chickens and ducks are given free access to roam the forest, eating bugs, plants, seeds, and anything else they desire, all while enjoying the shade of numerous trees. They are free-fed supplemental, certified organic feed sourced straight from the mill in Petaluma. The quail live in a roomy coop and are fed organic game bird feed. Bee the Change hopes to become certified organic in 2024, cost permitting. CA Egg Handler CA #3934.
